Neuroimaging & Methods Projects

TMBI is a major center for Positron Emission Tomography (TEP) & Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with 3-T MRI scanner from Philips allowing structural MRI, functional MRI, diffusion weighted-MRI, spectroscopic imaging, arterial spin labeling etc. There are plans to purchase a second PET scanner, freeing the original one for research, including a labeling facility for fluorine 18 radiopharmaceuticals. One of TONIC’s teams designs imaging biomarkers for various diseases : dementia, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, stroke.

TMBI will support future collaborative projects such as “Brain Implants for Health” and “Toulouse Merging Minds for Brain Implants” (TMeMBI) that involve more than 50 people from 7 laboratories, and develop treatments for many pathologies and handicaps (Neurodegenerative diseases, Cerebrovascular diseases, Epilepsy, Trauma, Sensory loss). Implants can also be used for regenerative medicine, brain-computer interfaces, prostheses, drugs, and brain stimulation electrodes. TMeMBI could combine expertise on stem cells/biomaterials, on pharmacological drugs and on electrode technology.
